Lean Coach: Eliminating Waste in Healthcare through Lean

Lean eliminates waste that costs money and evokes patient’s dissatisfaction. Lean is about removing waste to improve the quality of patient care and increase the number of patients we serve, all while reducing costs and the time patients wait.

“We have applied Lean in health care in a cardio clinic and in an Imaging Center,” says Charanjit Singh (CJ) Bawa, Lean Coach in Canada Health Net. “In the cardio clinic we were able to help the team by mapping the process to find out the redundant work. For example the same file or the patient file was touched at least 5-6 times by 3 or 4 different people so they were able to analyze the process, they were able to map the process. The same process now is done in one touch and also they were able to reduce their lead time by around 20%.”
